Who Requires a Visa?
- Students, intending to take up a study program in any educational institution in Sweden for more than 3 months of duration, should obtain a residence permit valid for one year, after which they have to get it renewed until the course is completed.
- For a stay less than three months, no residence permit is required. However, students have to obtain a valid visa for entering Sweden.
- Nationals of Nordic countries are exempted from acquiring a permit or visa to enter Sweden and seek admission in a Swedish university or college. They only have to register with the Swedish Migration Board on arrival in Sweden.
- All international students belonging to non-Nordic and non-EU/EEA countries have to apply for visa and residence permit before coming to Sweden.
- Members of Nordic and EU/EEA countries include Austria, Iceland, Belgium, Lichtenstein, Cyprus, Norway, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, United Kingdom, Romania, Bulgaria, and Slovakia.
